In an atmosphere of camaraderie and appreciation, Navy Town in Ojo, Lagos, marked the conclusion of 2023 with an end-of-year party, a gathering dedicated to honoring the officers and soldiers for their unwavering dedication and commitment to their duties.

The festivities took place on Friday at the Nigerian Navy Sports Complex in Ojo, Lagos State.

Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Navy Training Command (NAVTRAC), highlighted the purpose of the event: providing a relaxed and enjoyable moment for soldiers and their families.

Representing Rear Admiral Nwatu, Rear Admiral Dan Atakpa, the Chief Staff Officer at NAVTRAC, expressed gratitude to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for acknowledging the importance of a collective December celebration for the ratings and their families.

Rear Admiral Nwatu underlined the significance of such gatherings, emphasizing the need for soldiers to have moments of relaxation away from their structured routines.

He commended the 2023 Nigerian Navy Operation Cycle for its substantial achievements in curbing criminal activities, notably within the maritime domain, thereby contributing to a more secure environment for Lagos State and the nation at large.

Expressing gratitude for the dedication and commitment shown by the personnel, Rear Admiral Nwatu urged them not to relent, affirming that the Nigerian Navy will continuously count on their commitment.

He also extended appreciation to the families of the ratings for their patience and support while their spouses were on military duties.

At a parallel event, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) KADA conducted its end-of-year appreciation gathering, known as the WAZOBIA Party, unveiling the second edition of its Magazine, “Transporter.” The magazine provided insights into naval operations, accomplishments, and the inspirational stories defining the ship’s spirit.

This celebration, held on Friday onboard NNS KADA’s Helicopter deck, featured awards recognizing outstanding officers, senior rates, and junior rates of the year.

The event marked a significant period under the leadership of Captain Tony Achibong Bassey, who assumed command of the esteemed ship in August.

The Special Guest of Honor at the NNS KADA event was Rear Admiral Zakariyyah Muhammad, the Chief of Training and Operations Naval Headquarters, alongside other distinguished guests, including Rear Admiral M. Eno (Rtd) and Fleet Commander Western Fleet Commodore VD Choji, among other principal staff officers of the Western Naval Command.
