The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra recently marked a momentous occasion as it celebrated the successful graduation of 455 student ratings of second quarter courses 2023 at during an impressive ceremony, highlighting their dedication and commitment to excellence in naval service.
The Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Quorra, Commodore Adamu Yahaya noted that the courses graduated include 1st rate, 2nd rate and 3rd rate in various professional schools. These professional schools include the Navigation and Direction School, Underwater Warfare School and Communication and Information Technology School. Others include the Physical Training School, Computer Training School and the Religious schools comprising the Imam, Protestant and the Roman Catholic.
Commodore Yahaya during the combined graduation ceremony held at the NNS Quorra Auditorium on December 13, 2023, congratulated the graduands for their successful completion of various courses. In his speech, he emphasized the virtues of discipline, hard work, determination, and excellence as essential pillars for career progression within the Nigerian Navy (NN).
The Commandant expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for the lives spared throughout the course duration, highlighting the higher expectations the Nigerian Navy holds for the graduating ratings.
He urged them to apply the knowledge gained effectively, emphasizing professionalism, integrity, and a proactive approach to duty as crucial components of their service.
Acknowledging the conducive learning atmosphere provided by NNS Quorra, the Commandant assured continuous efforts to improve structures, the learning environment, and the welfare of both instructors and trainees.
Furthermore, he revealed ongoing initiatives to align the training standards with the International Maritime Organisation’s Standard of Training Certification for Watchkeeping and Seafarers, a move aimed at global recognition of certificates earned at the institution.
The Commandant thanked the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla (Admiralty Medal), for his visionary leadership and unwavering support toward the school’s development. He also extended gratitude to Rear Admiral PC Nwatu, the FOC NAVTRAC, recognizing his pivotal role in standardizing the training process.
Also speaking, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), shed light on the maritime domain’s historical significance, emphasizing the Nigerian Navy’s role in protecting national interests amidst numerous threats.
He underscored the importance of a well-trained personnel cadre to address contemporary maritime challenges effectively.
The FOC NAVTRAC highlighted the comprehensive training approach, reflecting global best practices, aimed at developing critical skills and competencies.
He assured the graduands that the acquired knowledge and practical exposure would significantly impact their performance in naval operations.
Rear Admiral Nwatu emphasized the ongoing efforts towards certification of NNS Quorra courses by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), aligning with International Maritime Organization (IMO) standards.
He urged the graduands to embrace continuous learning and personal development as crucial components of their future endeavors.
Urging them not to postpone preparation for post-service life, he encouraged them to uphold core values of professionalism, team spirit, and integrity.
