Navy’s NOWA NAVTRAC Chapter Launches Healthcare Initiative and E-Library Project in Ogun State

In a remarkable display of compassion and community engagement, the Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) Chapter has unveiled a groundbreaking medical outreach program in Otta, Ogun State. 

The event, graced by the presence of esteemed guests, marked a significant chapter in NOWA’s dedication to improving the lives of the less privileged in society.

Addressing the gathering, the NOWA NAVTRAC Chapter Chairperson, Mrs. Adarema Nwatu emphasized the significance of NOWA’s decision to hold this year’s medical outreach in Otta, given its proximity to the Nigerian Navy School of Music and as a testament to their commitment to strengthening civil-military relations with the Ota community.

She noted that the medical Rhapsody Outreach, which stands out for its uniqueness, aims not only to provide medical assistance to those in need but also to educate the community about various health issues.  

According to Nwatu, the importance of early detection and treatment of illnesses, highlighting that sometimes individuals are unaware of existing health concerns. To address this, she said health talks and medical checks will be an integral part of this year’s outreach.

“This year medical rhapsody outreach is a unique one as we intend to also have health talks and medical checks because often times we discover illness that even individuals within the community  are not aware of and we intend to start early treatment as well as to ensure that we reduce mortality of individuals within the society and if there is instance of ailments or illness that can be spread communally the doctor will teach you or explain to you so that you will be aware of  it. 

“So you are encouraged to go for medical checks this will enable you to identify and deal with any medical issues. We would be carrying out different medical checks such as eyes test, blood pressure, vital signs checks and also take complains of everybody present here as well as distribution of palliatives to members of your community” Nwatu noted.

According to the Chairperson who is the wife of the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) NAVTRAC, Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu noted that the medical checks will encompass a range of vital health indicators, including eye tests, blood pressure assessments, and vital signs checks.

She informed that community members will have the opportunity to voice their health concerns during the event, ensuring that a comprehensive approach to healthcare is maintained.

The event also featured the distribution of palliatives to members of the Otta community, further underlining NOWA’s commitment to alleviating the hardships faced by those in need.

The NOWA NAVTRAC Chairperson expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Flag Officer Commanding NAVTRAC and His Royal Majesty, Oba Professor Adeyemi Abdukadri Obalange as well as all the sponsors and supporters who made this noble gesture possible. 

On his part, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, Lanlege II, Arole Iganmode, Olota of Ota, Awori Kingdom, recognized the significance of the medical outreach program in identifying and addressing health concerns within the community.

He emphasized that the Navy’s efforts had a direct and positive impact on the lives of Otta residents, further strengthening the bond between the military and the civilian population.

The Olota of Otta’s generously donated a piece of land to the Nigerian Navy and also the construction of an E-Library facility that will serve the community and foster greater collaboration between the Navy and Otta residents.

The E-Library will not only provide access to a wealth of knowledge but also serve as a symbol of unity and mutual support.

His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege, extended his appreciation to the leadership of the Nigerian Navy, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla for the Medical Rhapsody Outreach in Otta.

In a heartfelt statement, he commended the Navy for their dedication to the welfare of the community, particularly their commitment to improving the security, healthcare and the overall well-being of the less privileged in Otta.

In his words: “I welcome the NOWA NAVTRAC on their visit to the Olota’s Palace and we thank them for the medical Rhapsody that is going on here at the Olota’s palace.

“We see the Nigerian Navy as part of our community and as Brothers and Sisters that is why we relate very well. We do not see the Navy personnel as an outsider but part of the community and that is what this relationship has brought to our community.

“My donation of land to the Nigerian Navy is borne out of the fact that we need to encourage the Nigerian Navy and motivate them inspite of the limited resources from the government. I think we the citizens of Nigeria also need to contribute to our military because I dont believe the government can do it alone.

“We are building an E-Library where in this era of shortage of books to equip any of our young ones such as students or those from other communities can come around and access any book or document thatvis available worldwide. This is part of technological empowerment and capacity development for our young people” Oba Obalanlege noted.
