The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Enugu/Anambra/Ebonyi Command has announced an unprecedented revenue collection of ₦50,847,625,597.08 for 2024, representing a 50% increase compared to the ₦27,954,707,493.00 collected in 2023. This achievement is the highest in the Command’s history, reflecting its commitment to delivering exceptional results.
During a press briefing, Comptroller Comfort Ukpanah, Customs Area Controller, attributed the milestone to the Command’s strategic alignment with the Comptroller General of Customs’ three policy guidelines of consultation, innovation, and consolidation.
She noted that the Command adopted an inclusive operational approach that fostered trust and compliance among stakeholders. Through meticulous compliance monitoring and enhanced surveillance, the Command ensured that all collectible revenue was accounted for, even amid global economic challenges.
The Command also strengthened its collaboration with security agencies, regulatory bodies, and traditional institutions. This collaboration was instrumental in achieving its goals and maintaining operational efficiency.
Comptroller Ukpanah emphasized the Command’s readiness to surpass its 2025 targets, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ₦49.74 trillion national budget projection. She affirmed that the Command possesses the capacity and determination to meet and exceed expectations in the coming year.
One of the highlights of 2024 was the visit of Mrs. Kikelomo Adewale Adeniyi, National Chairperson of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA). During her visit, she commissioned various projects, including an ultra-modern clinic that now serves both customs officers and neighboring communities.
The Comptroller expressed gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his leadership and support, which enabled the Command to achieve its mandate. She also thanked compliant traders for their cooperation while warning non-compliant operators to adhere to trade guidelines or face strict enforcement measures.
Recognizing the media’s vital role in promoting the activities of the Command and the Nigeria Customs Service, Ukpanah commended journalists for their professionalism and sense of duty. She urged them to continue their support as partners in nation-building.
Looking ahead, Comptroller Ukpanah reiterated the Command’s commitment to surpassing its revenue targets in 2025.
