Fatal Auto Crash Claims Motor Boy’s Life, Leaves Truck Driver Unconscious In Lagos

A tragic accident on the Oshodi-Gbagada Expressway claimed the life of a young motor boy while leaving the truck driver unconscious in a lone crash confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) on Saturday morning.

According to LASTMA reports, the incident occurred at the Anthony end of the Oshodi-Gbagada expressway. The truck driver, found unconscious at the scene, was swiftly taken to Gbagada General Hospital and is currently receiving treatment at the intensive care unit.

Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at LASTMA, verified the occurrence, detailing that the accident took place at Barracks Bus Stop Opposite Total Filling Station as the truck attempted to ascend Anthony ‘Oke’ Bridge toward Gbagada.

Taofiq mentioned, “Immediate investigation revealed that the driver of the containerised truck with registration number T 20345 LA lost control due to a brake failure, causing the truck to fall a few meters while ascending Anthony ‘Oke’ Bridge toward Gbagada.”

Upon the accident, LASTMA personnel swiftly responded, rescuing the unconscious driver. Unfortunately, the motor boy was found deceased at the accident site.

The Ilupeju Police Station dispatched officers to provide security support, while the incapacitated driver was promptly rushed to Gbagada General Hospital by officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) present at the scene.

Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bakare Oki, expressed condolences to the motor boy’s family during his visit to the accident scene. He also urged the motoring public, especially truck drivers, to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition, including the braking system, before commencing any journey in Lagos State or beyond.

The tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vehicle maintenance and cautious driving to prevent such devastating incidents on the roadways.
