The League of Maritime Editors (LOME) has finalized plans to commemorate its 25th anniversary on December 7, marking the occasion with a diverse array of activities, including a retreat in Lagos.

Honoring the milestone, the event’s Chief Host will be the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola, while Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group, will chair the celebration.

The program will feature presentations from notable industry Chief Executive Officers and chieftains, addressing themes such as “Harnessing Nigeria’s Potential in Marine and Blue Economy” and “The New 2023 Customs Act and Its Implication on Trade.”

According to a statement by Chief Timothy Okorocha, the League’s President, and Mr. Francis Ugwoke, the Public Relations Officer, papers will be presented by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other agencies under the Marine and Blue Economy, showcasing their contributions to the blue economy’s success under the administration of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Recognizing outstanding performance, 16 corporate organizations and individuals from the maritime sector, including bodies like the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), will be conferred with awards for their exceptional service in fulfilling their statutory obligations.

Individual awards will also be bestowed upon the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs (ACG Headquarters), O.A. Alajogun, among others.

Highlighting women’s contributions, the League will honor Dr. Mrs. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and Mrs. Josephine Moltok, General Manager of Corporate & Strategic Communications at NPA, for their remarkable track records in the industry.

The celebratory event, scheduled for 10 am at the Lagos Travel Inn in Ikeja, Lagos, signifies the League’s commitment to advancing the blue economy agenda of the federal government. As a prominent maritime journalists association within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, LOME stands as a watchdog and a key contributor to shaping the maritime industry’s agenda.

Francis Ugwoke, the Public Relations Officer, reiterated the League’s dedication to recognizing excellence and furthering the success of the blue economy agenda through this commemorative event.
