The police in Nsukka Area Command, Enugu state have started investigation over a reported case of an imposter who claimed to be a staff of the University Of Nigeria, Nsukka and extorts various amounts of money for admission and emplyment seekers into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Police intervention followed a strongly worded petition by an Nsukka -based business man, Celestine Nweze who alleged that one Sabastine Abugu who claimed to be a staff of the University, demanded and was paid N3m for admission into the school of medicine in the University.
The business man also alleged that the impostor who always claimed to be a personal assistant to the Vice Chancellor of the school and resides at Ugwu Achara in Nsukka collected the money but failed to secure the admission for the applicants and also failed to refund the money after promising to pay on several occasions.
According to the petitioner, the imposter who is from a neighbouring town of Olido in Enugu Ezike area of the community also extorted various sums of money from two other persons promising to secure employment for them at the University but he failed to fulfil his promise.
” The petition reads: “It is really surprising and disturbing that this same man claimed to be a staff of UNN and PA to the Vice Chancellor demanded and was given N3.5m to secure employment for our relations, Ugwu Celestine Okafor and Mrs. P. Onyeke but no employment was given as promised that he will use the VC’s quota for the job employment.
“Though he later paid back N1m efforts made to make him refund all the monies failed.”
Police sources said that after the approval of the petition, the case was also reported to the Chief Security Officer of the University but all efforts by the police and the University authority to arrest him failed as he was said to had disappeared to an unknown place.
It was also learnt that the police is intensifying efforts towards fishing him out and getting to the root of the case in order to avoid tarnishing the name of the great institution.
